Hurtigruten

Today's blog is being written from D - deck (not the lido deck - on this coastal steamer their isn't one - remember the love boat - this ain't it - it's quaint though) After a quick safety briefing in the terminal we headed to our cabin room 213 - 2nd floor from the bottom right near where the cars are parked as this boat also is a ferry service. Although we are not in a state room it is quite comfortable kinda like camping in a trailer. The boat rocked and rolled a bit during the night and I didn't sleep well but my roommate slept like a baby, as always!
A pic of our boat.
Just fooling..
The breakfast buffet was delicious and provided us with enough fuel for the day's sail down the fjords to Urke. A few more pics of fjords (sorry to bore you again with the view) before I tell you about Urke.
We sailed through the Hjorundfjorden to Urke, a small town of only 53 inhabitants, 12 of those children about 20 or so adults and the rest seniors and give or take about 20 folks that live here seasonally. The resident that met us coming off the boat was so happy to tell us 2 Canadians that when he was younger he worked as a sailor and sailed through Sept Iles and Baie Comeau and the St Lawrence and that he had eaten blueberries. He took our picture as he likes to take pics of tourists from different places. He is one of the town's 53 inhabitants and seems very happy. The town has its own lumber mill, power station, small general store, grows it's own vegetables and whatever else it needs comes from Alesund just up the fjord, our second stop this afternoon. Look at the beautiful scenary on our 1.5 hour walk up the fjord, cute little home made signs..
Today's refuelling stop.
And then (after a short snooze) it was back up the fjord to visit Aeslund - a beautiful city rebuilt in Art Nouveau after the big city fire of 1904..
A cute name for a bar.. (We weren't there though)
And one more sign that I just have to ask - why tomorrow why not today (think this one got lost in translation)
We're out of our cabin at 8:00 am tomorrow as we will have reached Trondheim, but since the ship docks until noon we can stay on board and have a leisurely breakfast and lounge a bit before we are off to explore Trondheim - founded by Viking King Olav in 997 and was the first capital of Norway.
