After the thrill of the ski museum it was off to the Edward Munch museum which was a bit underwhelming as the Munch works are touring in Amsterdam with Van Gogh. There are parallels between these 2 artists as their visions on life and art are closely related despite the fact that they never met. For this reason they are often mentioned together. This was an interesting fact - that I researched upon returning from the museum. At least all these museums have wifi (and washrooms) so its worth it to enter and of course all included with our Oslo pass. Oh yes the reference to 'scream' was Munch's famous painting The Scream which was sold in 2012 for $120M - we viewed reproductions only in the gift shop! Anyone can easily recreate it by placing their hands on their cheeks and open eyes wide and scream and then have someone paint your picture in bright blues and orange and yellow. Somewhat similar to our reaction to the price of a hamburger here in Oslo or their lovely wool sweaters!
Next up was our free mini cruise in the harbour - very relaxing and a lovely view of the city. We were able to view Oslo's fjord city project entitled the Bar code apartment project rising from the harbour. The plan is to rejuvenate the fjord to make it more accessible for citizens and tourists.
The Nobel Peace Center was next on our list - a thoughtful and thought provoking museum celebrating 800 past and present Nobel Peace Prize winners. You can't help but be moved by one of the most recent winners Malala Yousafzai who after being shot by the Taliban in her country continued to fight for the rights of girls to attend school and be educated. This was a very peaceful day to end our day.
A few more pics of the day - as you can see I still am eyeing those sweaters!
We keep on seeing these trolls everywhere - haunting but so cute!
Day 3 tomorrow of the museum marathon - lots to do and see here in Oslo. They have a great subway, tram and bus system - we've never waited more than 5 mins for anything!
One final note - we did not go on a Segway. Tempting though!
